Your business could be risking a Health & Safety fine of over £112,000!

As a business owner or Managing Director, you may think you have the Health & Safety thing covered, but do you know for sure that your business IS fully Health & Safety and First Aid compliant?  If you’re not or perhaps you’re unsure, then there is a solution.

We specialise in helping businesses who may not be 100% aware of their roles and responsibilities in relation to Health & Safety and First Aid at Work, by keeping them and their team up to date and fully trained.

It’s a frightening statistic that of all the Health and Safety fines issued in 2016, half of them were for the manufacturing industry (£16,816,673) and the average fine was over £112,000!

Make sure the only risk you expose yourself to is a sound risk assessment.

Health and Safety Laws apply to all organisations.  As an employer or a self-employed person, you are responsible for the health and safety in your business.  Health and safety laws protect you, your employees and the general public from dangers within the workplace.

We can help you become fully compliant by providing comprehensive training for your employees so that they will be able to understand the role of Health & Safety in the Workplace and understand basic risk assessment.

We are receiving lots of enquiries from companies concerned if they are meeting Health & Safety Regulations

With the Summer holidays now over, most employees back to work and business picking up again, we have had lots of enquiries from companies asking us to check if their business is fully meeting health and safety regulations, as governed by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) and adhering to the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

Health and Safety Laws apply to all organisations.  As an employer or a self-employed person, you are responsible for the health and safety in your business.  Health and safety laws protect you, your employees and the general public from dangers within the workplace.
We are helping a number of different organisations, all of whom are facing every day operational challenges. These include:
  • An employer worried about how many first aiders they must have, and do they need to have a defibrillator available on the premises?
  • A business which has experienced major growth, now find that their policies and procedures are no longer current or relevant. This is presenting them with dual problems – firstly on the compliance front and secondly when having to supply evidence for tender applications
  • A small company which has engaged a very big company to oversee their Health & Safety requirements.  But, sadly, the very big company only provides the minimum provision at a big company cost, so there is no interest in making sure the small business is best utilising H&S to become safe

If any of this sounds familiar then please give us a call and we can arrange a no obligation, no nonsense visit to see what needs to be done.

We can help you become fully compliant by providing comprehensive training for your employees so that they will be able to understand the role of Health & Safety in the Workplace and understand basic risk assessment.

I in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem at some point in their lifetime

It is documented that workplace mental health issues are often associated with stress, which can be caused by many different factors such as demanding workloads, multiple tight deadlines, cost containment, people management and undoubtedly dealing with a stressful event such as a cardiac arrest.

All employers have a general duty to look after the welfare of their employees under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.   Plus they must assess and manage risk to their staff under Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

You may not be aware that your First Aiders could also suffer from stress if they have had to deal with a medical situation such as a cardiac arrest or a major emergency.  If the effects of dealing with a stressful situation are not dealt with quickly and effectively, then it can lead to the person suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

Poor employee mental health arising from stress can have a significant impact on a business. This may include loss of money due to a reduction in productivity and sickness absence, particularly if they are a small business and don’t have the resources to cover or replace staff who are unexpectedly absent for long periods of time, or those who have very specific skills and knowledge.

We believe that our training is unique.

Our training team have personally dealt with many emotionally stressful medical incidents and emergencies so our training courses cover much more than a First Aid manual or guide can. Our training makes reference to understanding and relating to the feelings which might be experienced after a medical incident. We also provide a one to one telephone debrief which explains the emotional and physical feelings which may result such as aching muscles and dealing with unexpected relapses that may happen at any time in the future.

To support your business we also:

  • Provide post training support so our delegates can ask questions post course
  • Provide First Aid needs assessments and in date monitoring of First Aid equipment and training certificates
  • Have Occupational Health specialists for longer term help if needed

Our courses are for anyone who wants to learn basic First Aid through to coping with emergencies. Whether you are an individual, small or large business, we have a wide range of courses available to suit your requirements.

Our programmes are delivered nationwide and include – First Aid at Work suite of courses, Paediatric First Aid as well as a raft of Health & Safety programmes.

Contact us to see how we can reduce the stress within your First Aider team. For information or to book onto one of our courses, please call us on 0333 358 3521, email us on info@oakley-services.co.uk or click here.

Excellence in Customer Service courses in August and September in Hampshire

Although your customers won’t love you if you give bad customer service, your competitors will!

In today’s world, most of us face global competition. Customers can shop all over the world, at any time, at a click of a mouse. The main difference between you and your competitors may only be in the Customer Service you provide and the Customer Service skills that your staff have.

Customer Service and Customer Care has a vital role to play in all businesses no matter how big or small and without it, they risk losing business.

Reasons why providing the best customer service is more important than anything else:

  • 78% of consumers have given up on a transaction or not made an intended purchase because of a poor service experience*
  • On average, loyal customers are worth up to 10 times as much as their first purchase**
  • News of bad customer service reaches more than twice as many ears as praise for a good service experience**
  • It is 6-7 times more expensive to acquire a new customer than it is to keep a current one**

To over-deliver in service to a customer is by far the most valuable thing to a business.

Free Emergency First Aid Seminar in Newbury – Friday 28 July

It’s vitally important that everyone learns basic first aid skills and lifesaving techniques, as anyone of us could be faced with an unexpected emergency situation where we need to help save someone’s life.

Figures released in September 2016 by the Fire Statistics team* reported 303 fire-related fatalities in England during a 12 month period 2015-6, which was 39 more than the previous year and overall the Fire and Rescue Service attended around 162,000 fires in England.

In the year ending September 2015, 1,780 people died on Britain’s roads** which was 49 more deaths than the year before.

In the UK, there are more than 100,000 strokes each year, which means that a stroke happens every five minutes.  It’s the fourth single leading cause of death in the UK.

There is a real chance that each one of us will be the first person at the scene of a fire, a road traffic accident or where a person has a stroke, or at another medical emergency during our lifetime.

However, research conducted by ICM, February 2010*** commissioned to determine how many people could be the difference between a life lost and a life saved revealed:

  • 59% wouldn’t feel confident trying to save a life
  • 24% would do nothing and wait for an ambulance to arrive or hope that a passer-by knows first aid
  • 39% would try and do first aid even though they are not sure what to do
  • 28% say they’d know what first aid to do – but sadly their confidence is misplaced and many would do the wrong thing and may even make the situation worse.

An ambulance responding to a call for a life-threatening situation can take a while, so while you are waiting, having basic first aid and emergency first aid skills can really be the difference between life and death.

Our Free Emergency First Aid Seminar in partnership with Newbury College will take place on:

  • Friday 28 Jul at 1.00pm-2.00pm
  • The Sports Hall Mezzanine
