CPR/AED and Medical Emergencies for Dental Professionals

Course Details

This blended learning course looks at the requirements to allow dental clinicians including dentists, dental nurses and hygienists to develop their professional knowledge, understanding and competence in medical emergencies, in line with their identified personal learning requirements.

 

This blended course includes “live” manikin training for CPR and use of the AED as part of the second session, once the on-line session has been completed.  This allows delegates to comply with both the GDC and Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines

Course Contents

Session 1 (On-line learning)

  • Recognising and responding to a range of medical emergencies including:
  • cardiac arrest
  • choking
  • myocardial infarction
  • angina
  • asthma
  • anaphylaxis
  • diabetes
  • syncope
  • epilepsy
  • The use of emergency equipment and drugs in line with Resuscitation Council (UK) and BNF guidelines
  • The importance of teamwork in the ABCDE Approach to managing medical emergencies

Planning ahead in order to minimise the risks of a medical emergency for individual patients

Session 2 (Face to face)

  • Management of an unresponsive casualty
  • CPR
  • Safe use of a defibrillator

Learners are assessed through self-checks on the on-line session as they progress through the course and an end of on-line session multiple choice assessment.

The face to face session will be assessed by the trainer

On successful completion, learners can download a certificate which can be used as verifiable CPD in line with GDC Enhanced CPD guidelines
